Catalonia

The autonomous region of Catalonia — often called the industrial engine of Spain — is experiencing an economic rebirth since emerging from the pandemic era, with rapid growth of 3% set to surpass the national average in 2024.

According to The Economist, Spain’s economy currently takes the top place of nations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development region under the publication’s unique ranking system based on gross domestic product, stock market performance, inflation, unemployment and fiscal balances.

Catalonia’s 2024 elections saw a move away from pro-independence with the Catalan Socialist Party returning as the region’s biggest represented party. New President of the Government of Catalonia Salvador Illa has proclaimed a new era for the region, with an emphasis on unity, sustainability and local infrastructure development.
